The car started life in 1999 as a Black Mk4 Golf 1.4 FWD. After years of visiting Santa Pod with friends and family, I always wanted to have a go myself. Now was my chance in the Golf. I quickly decided that the 1.4 just wasn't powerful enough to get me up the strip as quickly as I would have liked. So the work started there, with a engine swap. The replacement was a 1.8 20v turbo 150bhp. Once again upto Santa Pod I went. Well that was better BUT still room for improvement! However, with a little research and forum browsing I decided a new turbo was required, so here it was, a Garrett gt28. Once fitted with a couple of extra's and re-mapped (now pushing 330bhp and still a daily driver), also with a LSD (limited slip differential) I was struggling to hold down the power. After weeks of scratching heads it was decided that it would be better to go 4WD, again onto the net I went. That weekend I found myself at a local scrap yard with a grinder, cutting a rear floor pan out of a Audi S3. Once back home with a drill, drilling out hundreds of spot welds on the Golfs original rear end, a bit of welding and fitting we now had a 4WD Golf. But this time I was in a situation i've now got a 330bhp 4WD Golf and loads of traction. Before I knew it I had parcels being delivered, engine out, stripped, so this could only mean one thing. Yes, you guess it theres 'no going back' now! I was then persuaded to change the colour of the car from a black Mk4 Golf as it wouldn't stand out from the rest. Next came the complete engine overhaul and a new Garret HTA gt3582r married up to the 4WD and we're now talking business. It was time to re-visit Santa Pod to find out what this animal would do and WOW what a tranformation. I was hitting the 12 second mark, well as you can imagine I got the bug and now had my mind set on having a 10 second car. After a few hiccups, adjustments and additions I was getting better and was even approached by other drag racers to join them in championships. With hours and hours of reading through the rule books and a few more additions with the help from some great sponsors on the car we now run in 2 different classes, one being VWDRC and the other FWD drag racing series
I'm now proud to say my personal best so far is 9.38sec @ 151mph!
